Following is some information and key dates to assist you with our enrolment process.

Each year we hold an Information Evening in August. This is an opportunity to get ‘first hand’ information about our school in action. We encourage all prospective students and their parents/caregivers to visit our school on this evening. To enrol your child at Berkley you must complete an enrolment form and ensure that it is handed to the Berkley school office by the specified date.  Our School Board of Trustees operates an enrolment scheme to prevent overcrowding or the likelihood of overcrowding at our school.   Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone.  The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.  The notice will indicate how many applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received. Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority.

Out of Zone Enrolments

Applications for out of zone enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

a.  if there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989.  Parents/caregivers will be notified in writing by a specified date and will be given a certain time frame in which to confirm their acceptance.   Applicants seeking second, third or fourth priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling/parental relationship.

First priority

This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education.

Second priority

Will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.

Third priority

Will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.

Fourth priority

Will be given to applicants who are children of former students.

Fifth priority

Will be given to applicants who are children of Board employees.

Sixth priority

Will be given to all other applicants.

In Zone Enrolments

All ‘in-zone’ enrolments, must have proof of residence in the Berkley Normal Middle School zone attached to the enrolment form. Please use one of the following documents: power account, telephone account or tenancy agreement. (Must be the original document – not a copy) We do not accept Rates/Environmental Waikato invoices.

b.  if your child was NOT born in New Zealand you must bring your child’s passport  to the school office for photocopying before the enrolment can be processed. Note parents need to be aware that if they are successful in gaining enrolment at Berkley Normal Middle School this DOES NOT give automatic right of access for enrolment at Hillcrest High School, unless the student resides within the Hillcrest High School zone.  If you have any queries related to the enrolment process, please contact the school office on 856 6537.
