Kia ora, and welcome to Room One.

Cherie Grant is my name, and I have the privilege of working with our Kia Kaha learners; supporting them to progress and grow as emerging adolescents and become inspiring young citizens of our community. It is very rewarding to be a part of the highly skilled Berkley team, as we focus on developing the whole child - so they may take up the challenge and become involved in the many cultural, social, academic and sporting opportunities offered. It is the middle school of choice for my own family.

Daily family life is one great adventure of music, dance and sports. Weekends and holidays often revolve around travel to other New Zealand destinations for competitions or tournaments; fortunately travelling and the beauty of our country is also a family favourite. Each summer, Great Barrier Island is our holiday destination and the opportunity to take an extended break from the weekly routines; disconnect from the grid, live by the tides and be fed from the sea, is something we all relish every year.

As a teacher, my personal and professional skills I pack in to my school bag each day (along with my lunch!) support the holistic learning in Room One - whether it be my enjoyment of everything outdoors and in nature, or the years I studied and worked in Japan, or past teaching and learning experiences (from newborn at Playcentre through to tertiary level at Waikato University) - together, in Room One, we continue our journey as lifelong learners.

I look forward to meeting you and your family here at school, or out there on the sideline!
