Kia ora and 안녕하세요,

Welcome to the 2023 school year! I am pleased to take this opportunity to introduce myself and welcome you into the Room 21/Aranui family. I can already see that this year is going to be a year full of fun, new learning, and adventures. I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us.

Who is Mr H?

I was born and raised in a city called Seoul in South Korea and I came to Matamata, when I turned sixteen to complete my high school education. I’ve found my passion in teaching through coaching and tutoring at Matamata College which led me to study teaching at The University of Waikato.

Studying in unfamiliar surroundings without my family’s support has been a big challenge for me. However, this has turned out to be my biggest accomplishment. I have conquered my biggest fear and this has shaped who I am as a person. This has taught me that when you work to the best of your ability, you will be able to achieve anything! I give this advice to my students every year as I truly believe that all of my students can achieve their goals and their dreams when they are willing to put in the hard work.

What is my passion?

I have a massive passion for outdoor activities and sports. In my spare time I like spending time surfing, fishing, and snowboarding. Even though I like all sports, football has to be my favourite. I have been playing competitively for a local club in Hamilton for a few years. I also love music. I love playing instruments, such as piano and guitar, and I have been lucky enough to sing in a band!!

My ultimate goal for each one of you, is for you to experience success this year and feel comfortable being outside of your comfort zone. Take up the challenge! (You will hear this phrase a lot this year!). There are many opportunities for you to participate in, such as, Kapa Haka, AIMS, Epro8, and Sports Camp! So, be confident and try everything!

I am thrilled to work with you this year and look forward to seeing you all!
