I am very excited for this year as it is my first-year teaching in the classroom. I am really looking forward to a fantastic year together!
I studied at the University of Waikato for the past three years, completing my Bachelor’s degree in primary teaching. Before that I studied Mathematical Sciences for two years at the Auckland University of Technology. Before that, a double major of Psychology and English for two years at Waikato University and before that I studied for a year at WINTEC where I trained as a chef.
My passion for teaching began when I was helping my partner teach music at Nawton Primary School in an after-school programme called ‘Sistema’ (no, not the plastic containers, but a music programme that comes from Venezuela!) Here I taught singing and violin, in addition to teaching myself how to play the ukulele.
I enjoy reading, watching movies, spirited debates, and playing video games. My favourite books are the Keys to the Kingdom by Garth Nix, and the Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy. My favourite guilty pleasure movie is Mean Girls and the game Rimworld. Above all, my two fur babies are the loves of my life, named Lily and Xena. No doubt you’ll get a chance to hear all about them this year, as they will be featured in many of our work problems.
Our classroom will be a safe space where we can be ourselves and feel safe to talk about things that we need help with. Our class can be fun and exciting, but it requires all of us to be respectful and courteous to each other.
I will respect every person who enters our classroom and ask that our classroom, and the items in it, are treated the same.
We are in team Mahi Tahi this year! Our team includes: Miss Cooke (Rm 23), Ms Reeve (Rm 24) and we are led by Miss Shepp (Rm 26), so we are in fantastic hands for the year.
I am looking forward to this year and all of the experiences we will share!
Knowledge not shared is not knowledge!
