Kia ora! I'm Courteney, and I'm so excited to be your Drama teacher here at Berkley.
Drama has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I've spent nearly twenty years performing on stages around Aotearoa as an actor and musical theatre performer, and my work goes beyond the stage lights too, having directed, produced, and worked in production design. I bring all of that experience into the classroom to help students find their confidence, creativity, and voice, and to show them there are so many ways to be part of a show.
What I love most about Berkley is the sense of community and the sheer amount of opportunity students have to take a risk and try something new. There's nothing better than watching a student who was too nervous to even stand up in front of the class find their courage and shine.
Outside of school, I'm married with a teenager of my own, as well as our German Spitz, Hades, who, despite his fierce name, is the fluffiest, most dramatic member of our household (he'd probably make a great actor himself). I'm also in the final stretch of a Master's degree in Theatre.
I believe every student has a story worth telling and a stage worth standing on, whether that's in front of a full audience or just their classmates. I can't wait to watch each of you take up the challenge and find the performer in yourselves.
