Dave Simmonds
Kia ora,
I’m Dave Simmonds and I am the Hard Materials teacher at Berkley Normal Middle School.
I lived in Hokianga, both Rawene and Opononi, for many years, before moving to Whangarei. After many fun years in Post Office/Telecom where I earned my Trade Cert', I completed teacher training at Te Tai Tokerau campus, gaining my Bachelor of Education in 1999. My interest in technology education grew through my time as HoD technology at Hukerenui School.
My family and I moved to live in Cambridge to be closer to family and to enjoy the many challenges and amazing opportunities that working at Berkley Normal Middle School brings.
I have a daughter involved in dance, and a son involved with sports. My wife teaches in early childhood. Some of my own interests are reading, NZ history, looking after the garden, bushcraft and archery. In recent years I decided to get into fly fishing. That's a learning curve!
I believe learning in technology should be as challenging, enjoyable, and rewarding as possible. We work hard and we have a lot to learn. I am very proud of the technology program we have at Berkley and look forward to working with your students as they take on this challenging and rewarding learning.
