Owen Culliney

My name is Owen and I have sat on education boards since my children were in daycare. Being married to an educator has allowed me an insight into the challenges that our Pouako and Tamariki face in guiding and attaining education outcomes in New Zealand. Governance is one way that I am able to support my community and I have chosen education as the place I will seek to make an impact.
I have three children who have, are and will attend Berkley Normal Middle School and I am proud to be an elected member of the board of trustees of the school.
In my day job, I am a partner at a law firm called OClaw. I assist my clients to sleep well at night knowing that their legal risks are as under control as possible, whether they are a good old kiwi family owning a home and paying a mortgage or a family business trying to juggle staff, risk and money. It is a privilege to help kiwis manage risk and get ahead in life and I think it is the skills that I have learned as a lawyer that allow me to be useful in governance.
You will find me, if not at my desk or around the Berkley board table, on the sidelines of the sports fields watching my kids, the side of a stream untangling fishing lines or beside the fairway (never on it) finding my ball.
I am also known to burn a few sausages at the Berkley open days…
