Return to Onsite Learning from Wednesday 17 November 2021

12 November 2021

Kia ora Berkley whanau,

We are very much looking forward to welcoming Berkley learners back to school next week. All Berkley staff have been working hard preparing our campus and planning exciting programmes to ensure we can have the very best end to the year as possible. Although it won’t be a return to ‘business as usual’, we know that a number of students will welcome the opportunity to reconnect with their Berkley Whanau.

Learning Cohorts

To avoid congestion and keep groups of learners physically distanced from each other, we will not be able to support all students onsite at the same time. To manage these limitations, we will need to separate learners into four different cohorts, each with their own schedule of onsite and distance learning. Distance learning will continue during this time, although you can expect that schedule to change as teachers make arrangements to manage a hybrid of both face-to-face learning and learning online.

Cohort A - Students learning from home full time Monday - Friday.

Cohort B - Students onsite learning on Monday, Tuesday + alternate Wednesdays.

Cohort C - Students onsite learning on alternate Wednesdays + Thursday and Friday.

Cohort D - Students who need to attend onsite learning full time Monday - Friday. We have a limited capacity to accommodate learners who are not able to learn from home at all, however we ask that wherever possible, students join cohorts B or C.

School Times

To avoid any congregation onsite - including for pick-ups and drop off - we have created an alternative timetable that staggers the start and end time of the day for different teams. Parents and whānau, please also note the allocated gates for your team when picking up or dropping off your child/children. School buses will be running next week at the usual times.

Start and Finish Times - 8.30 am - 2:45pm

Pick Up/Drop Off Gates

Tainui, Rangahau - Mullane Street

Te Aroha - Berkley Avenue

Start and Finish Times - 9:00am - 3:15pm

Pick Up/Drop Off Gates

Aranui and Mahi Tahi- Mullane Street

Vaccinations

We are required to keep information regarding the COVID-19 vaccination status for all students aged 12 years and older. On Monday, I will share details of how caregivers and whānau can share this information with us in a separate communication. It goes without saying that we understand the importance of privacy in regards to vaccination information and details of how vaccination information will be managed will also be contained in my communication. Please note, students are not required to be vaccinated in order to attend onsite learning.

Action Required

Shortly you will be receiving an email from your child’s classroom teacher requesting information about your preferred cohort option for your child. On Monday, you will also receive further details regarding how school will operate at Alert Level 3 when students are working onsite including the requirement to wear masks, for you to read over with your child/children.

Ngā mihi,

Nathan Leith
