ALERT LEVEL 2 ONSITE LEARNING AT BERKLEY

Community Update 15 November 2021

Kia ora Berkley Community

Have you heard the news? We're moving to Alert Level 2 tomorrow at 11:59pm! That means that we can welcome back all learners to onsite learning on Wednesday 17 November 2021.

I have to admit I am a little surprised, but I am also excited to be back in a more normal environment, with less restrictions for the final few weeks of the term. Thank you all for working with us and responding to our requests over the last few days. Fingers crossed we will not need the planning we have been working on at some point in the future!

Along with the normal high standards we expect of behaviour and respect at Berkley, we have the following protocols in place to ensure that Berkley is a safe place for all. Please take time to talk through the following requirements with your child:

* School is open and students are expected to attend learning onsite.

*Any children and staff are to stay at home if they are sick. Children will be sent home immediately if they show any symptoms of being unwell.

*All students will be expected to use high standards of hand hygiene - That is washing hands regularly with soap and water, especially after toileting and hand sanitising when entering and exiting all teaching spaces (All classroom spaces have supplies of sanitiser).

*Coughing or sneezing into a tissue or elbow and then performing hand hygiene.

*Masks are not required at Alert Level 2, however students are welcome to wear a mask if they wish to do so.

*We expect that all our learners will ensure to follow the physical distance expectations. Hugs and handshakes are not appropriate at this time.

*Our site will have a strict cleaning schedule with surfaces regularly wiped and sanitised. Along with the daily, detailed clean by our CrestClean team, all classes will have a daily protocol for wiping down hard surfaces and shared devices.

*No sharing of food, including shared lunches.

*The canteen will be open from Thursday 18 November 2021.

*Use of drinking fountains is permitted, however we are encouraging students to bring their own named water bottle from home.

*School gatherings, including school assemblies and team huis will not go ahead at this alert level. We will be in touch regarding our end of year gatherings.

*All school transport services will resume. Note - masks are now mandatory on school buses for students aged 12 years and older at all Alert Levels.

*Parents and whanau are asked to contact the office via email or telephone wherever possible. Likewise, we ask that parents and whanau use email or telephone to make contact with classroom teachers in the first instance.

*All visitors to the school grounds, including parents and whanau, are required to report to the school office in the first instance and use the official NZ Government COVID 19 Tracing App.

We are aware that the change to the alert level will mean different things for different families. If your child will be absent for any reason, please let us know via the school office or the absence form on our school website www.berkley.school.nz.

Normal Berkley entry and exiting protocols will continue - Pick up and drop offs, walkers, students on scooters and bikes to enter the school via Mullane Street; Buses will resume pick up and drop offs using the Berkley Ave bus bay.

Nathan Leith
