Kia ora whānau,

Welcome to Room 17 – your classroom for 2024. My name is Natalie Thompson. I am a local to Waikato, and live in the beautiful countryside with my partner and our three children. We travelled to Cook’s Beach and Pukehina for our summer holiday this year, where we spent our days swimming, surfing and hiking. One of my favourite memories from this summer was exploring Gemstone Bay in the Coromandel. A beautiful little cove known for fantastic snorkeling. In the water we spotted giant snapper and friendly stingrays, although they did make my heart skip a beat. Like its name suggests, it is a real gem. When I’m not exploring our beautiful country I enjoy growing my own food at home. I have a large vegetable garden full of yummy vegetables and flowers to pick. Our fruit trees provide me with a great sense of joy when stepping outside to pick fresh fruit. As a trained chef I’m fortunate to have many cooking skills and on a Sunday morning I can often be found baking delicious cakes and bread for my friends and family to enjoy.

A strength I bring to the classroom is building positive relationships with my students, and working with them to develop the skills to manage their own behaviour and learning. My greatest joy as a teacher is watching students' confidence and self-belief grow. I encourage my students to discuss, share opinions and express their ideas. I take pride in creating a classroom environment where students are engaged in many learning opportunities whilst allowing students to flourish as individuals.

I also enjoy meeting with you as the need arises so please ensure you contact me if you wish to discuss anything in person. I look forward to getting to know you and your child as we embark on an exciting year ahead.
